Students are allowed to leave class, but some rules must be followed for safety purposes.
- Cannot go during first 10 or last 10 minutes of class.
- Students may only go one at a time with the hall pass.
- Are not gone longer than 5 minutes to be courteous to others that need to use the restroom.
- Sometimes I will ask you to wait until we are done with something before you leave.
- I cannot remember everyone who asks to use the restroom, so do not be offended if I forget what order people are going in. Just remind each other whose turn it is and be patient.
- Those who abuse the privilege will not be trusted to leave again.
- Special situations arise and all are expected to be understanding of other people's needs. (aka: Emergencies happen and it is none of your business!)

Cheating
If you are caught cheating or allowing someone to cheat off of your work then you will receive a zero on that assignment, quiz, or test. Do your own work to the best of your abilities. If you're not satisfied with what you can do on your own, then come see me or a tutor for help. All I ask is that you do your best and don't quit when you make mistakes. The only way we truly fail in life is when we give up. Math is hard, and you will get problems wrong, but don't beat yourself up for it. Don't be afraid to put in the time it takes to get it right.
Absences
Please refer to the East High School Handbook for school policy regarding absences from school. The more you come to school the better you will understand your classes. Students that do not attend on a regular basis will fall behind and become frustrated.
When you are absent you are still held accountable for the work we complete in class that day. It is your responsibility to ask me for the work you missed and ask your friends for their notes and what we did in class that day and turn it in. Special arrangements will be made for extended absences. In the case of an excused absence on a test day, the student must take the missing test the day of return to school.

Tardies
Students are expected to be in their assigned seat when the tardy bell rings. In the event that they are late in excess of 5 times during a quarter, they will be referred to the Assistant Principal.
Cell Phone Policy
Technology, when used appropriately, enhances the learning process. We use our cell phones occasionally in class. When permitted students may have their cell phones out and be using them for learning purposes.
Research has shown that “heavier smartphone use has been linked to lower-quality sleep and lower GPAs” and that “more than 75 percent of students reported texting while in class, and in-class texting was linked to an average drop of half a letter grade or more.”
Therefore, students will not be allowed to be on cell phones during class time unless specifically instructed by the teacher for a learning activity. In an effort to enforce this policy students will be given the opportunity to earn extra credit for turning in their cell phones to a basket at the front of the classroom each day. You can earn 1 point each day that you turn in your cell phone. That may not seem like much, but that equates to 65 points each semester. That is enough extra credit to make up for 6 missing assignments, 4 bad quiz grades, or help a low test score. That makes a huge difference when you're trying to pass a class!
If you choose not to turn it in, your CELL PHONE CAN NEVER BE IN SIGHT. Off your desk, off your lap, and in your pocket or backpack. If it is seen for any reason then it will be confiscated until the end of the class period, and then returned back to you when the bell rings. Defiance on this matter will be dealt with swiftly and quietly so as not to distract other students from learning.
Parents needing to reach their students in the event of an emergency during class may do so by calling the main office at 549-7222. Students will never be permitted to answer their cell phone in class. If they do, it will be confiscated. Thank you for your support of this effort and your cooperation in not texting or phoning your student during class time.

Food
If it is disruptive to the class's learning then it will be confiscated. Do not have your friends deliver food to this class.
Consequences
In life you are free to make choices, but you are not free from the consequences that follow. In class you are 'free' to talk to your neighbor any time you want, but you are not free from the consequence of moving to another desk because you keep distracting me or others by talking too much. So while you're in class, please choose to follow the Expectations for Success.
Everyone needs something different to learn from their mistakes and so consequences are different for each choice and each student. Sometimes there will be an immediate consequence, and other times we may need to set up a time to problem-solve the situation between the two of us or with your parents.
Consequence Process*
1st- Reminder/Warning
2nd- Student Conference
3rd- Referral/Parent Contact
*This process can be accelerated depending on the offense.

Emergency Situations
Emergency Flip Chart is by the door. Does everyone see it?
Fire: We close the windows and lock the door, then walk down the hall and exit the doors into the teacher parking lot. We line up on the football field and I take attendance. During a drill, anyone not present receives a referral.
Lock-down: We close the windows and lock the door, then huddle in the corner. If you are using the bathroom during a lock-down then exit immediately and go to the nearest classroom. I expect no talking or noise, even during a drill. Those that have to be reminded will receive a referral.
Secure Perimeter: We close the blinds and lock the door. We keep learning as usual within the classroom.

Safe to Tell
We want this school, and I want this classroom, to be a Safe Place. Many things happen that teachers and administrators do not see even when we are looking for it. You, the students, must be the eyes and ears that tell us when something is either being planned, is occuring right now, or has happened already that we don't know about.
You can do this safely and anonymously with the Safe to Tell phone number. Please save it to your phone right now.
1-877-542-7233
There is also an app that allows you to report without calling. Called Safe to Tell CO. Please look it up and download it.
If you see something in the classroom, halls, restroom, grounds, snapchat, facebook, or any place else, even if it only affects one person, it can't hurt to anonymously report it.
